You’ve certainly seen the movie The Secret and you’ve enjoyed it. Everyone has and everyone raves about it. If you haven’t seen it yet, I suggest you go see it soon. The Secret is really not a secret at all. Producer Rhonda Byrne brings to light with Bob Proctor and Esther Hicks what many of us have known for years: what you think about, you attract. This is based on what is now popularly referred to as The Law of Attraction.

It doesn’t matter all that much what you are experiencing in life. What matters is where you are experiencing it from. What matters is what you really are. Is it possible that you really are not the body or the personality or your mind? Is it possible that these are things you experience but they are not what you are made of? Is it possible that you are spacean open and allowing spacethat the body and the mind appear in?

This is what I have been studying as a quantum healing author and doctor. There are some people who experience spontaneous remission of terminal diseases like cancer, leukeamia, heart disease, and yet scores of others die of the same disease. What if you were more than just this body and mind that you think you are?

What if this space that you are made of between the atoms and the cells that compose your body and that you are unaware of? What if it is really the space that is perceiving these words? What if the atoms in your body are actually thinking and intelligent? Don’t you ever wonder how your food gets transformed into an arm, a liver, an eye? How do the cells know who’s doing what today?

This space that you are that contains all of your atoms and all of your cells is limitless. This space of Being has no boundaries. If you go on and on forever, what would this mean? What would this mean if there is unlimited awareness available in every moment? Would you still need to be so careful about what you experience and what you avoid? Or could you just allow every experience to have some of the limitless space that you are?

This space is actually where healing occurs. In between the atoms and the cells, in that giant space that makes up you, there is a silent observer who orchestrates your well-being. It’s funny how some of the most brilliant minds don’t start out that way. For those of you not versed in this truth let me name just a few. Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Bill Gates and Henry Ford. These are all great examples of individuals who were not exactly considered to be standout students! Einstein wasn’t even talking at the age of 6, Edison was a drop out, Bill gates left college without a degree and Henry Ford was actually taken in to a court room to try to prove him an idiot -no joke it really happened! Dr. Demartini himself was labeled ’slow’ and was told he’d never read beyond a lower grade school level -or ever amount to much for that matter. Can you imagine being the one telling any of these guys that? What a blow that would be! I’d personally want to crawl into a hole and never come out if I had made such a mistake.

Dr. DeMartini didn’t listen to those nay Sayers and lucky for us – he went on to become a Doctor of Chiropractic and Clinical Research. I think that is a marvelous accomplishment considering on top of being labeled with having a learning disability he had so much more to over come. At the age of 14 John dropped out of high school and was homeless, as well as out begging on the streets for anything he could get his hands on as a way just to survive. At 17 he had a near death experience…and that seemingly tragic event served as a catalyst that turned everything in his life around -resulting in a complete 180 degree turn in his thinking, and in the way he had been living his life prior to a near fatal ingestion of strychnine.

When he awoke from that experience, he made a promise to himself to become ‘a teacher, a healer, and a philosopher.’ in order to turn things around for himself internally in his mind, body and spirit. These are the reasons he became a Doctor -the ‘healer’ part of his promise, a Speaker ‘to master the art of teaching’ and he also became a student of Philosophy, Science and Theology ‘to understand our connection with the Divine.’ He has spent the last 30 years keeping his promise and challenging as well as changing the way most people think on a day-to-day basis. Now his association to The Secret is helping him reach even more people than he had before.

As I was looking in to his past, present and future accomplishments and intentions it struck me -how many other people would have just given up in his shoes? How many of them would have made the type of turn around that Dr. DeMartini did? How many more people are living a life uncontested to their current circumstances? What I mean by that last question is how many people out there are just ’settling’ for the lives they are living? How many more will never reach their highest potential? How many more will? Johns story can serve as a great testament to the inner strength found deep inside each and every one of us…if we just look deep enough, go down far enough, and reach out high enough I’d be willing to bet the farm we could all succeed in becoming better, happier, and even healthier -in our minds and hearts -you know what I am implying here – after all, those are the places that determine our sense of worth and contentment to begin with! Don’t you agree?

A great deal has been written about and discussed with regards to the films "The Secret" and "Beyond the Secret" which has created a great deal of attention and discussion across the entire world regarding what it takes if we truly want to change our lives for the better in every way we desire. Many people are rightfully interested to know if the techniques taught there truly work.

The films "The Secret" and "Beyond the Secret" send a message that there is a psycho-spiritual technique called the Law of Attraction which, if applied in our lives, can bring us anything in our lives which we truly desire. The Law of Attraction states that we attract whatever we think, feel and visualize. Thus, if we want a new Mercedes Benz, for example, we need to regularly think about the Mercedes and keep our thoughts focused on the object of our desire, in this case, the Mercedes Benz. Does the tool work? Well, yes and no.

There is a strong element of truth to the films "The Secret" and "Beyond the Secret" which acknowledges the important element of desire and passion for something if we are truly to go about and attain it. Without this desire and passion, there are simply too many forces within our psyche and the world which will create barriers for us that prevent us from obtaining our objective.

The important part that "The Secret", in particular, fails to address is that our mind has two separate components: a conscious mind and a subconscious mind. If we do not transform our subconscious mind, then no matter how much attention we give to the Porsche, in this example, our subconscious mind will prevent us from obtaining it. Without visualization, strong feeling and emotion that are vital and necessary in addition to our attention given to our goal or objective, then we will be unable to channel the energy required in order to wholly uproot and transform our subconscious beliefs which may be a major obstacle preventing us from obtaining the object of our desire. Only if we do so would our subconscious mind be able to serve as our helper and catalyst in obtaining our goal, whatever it may be. This is truly the secret of how humans function. We all have a subconscious mind that serves as a catalyst for the beleifs contained within it. If a person wanted to learn how to make money by writing inspirational stories, then even though they may learn so by reading this article, only if a person is able to transform their subconscious beliefs which would be preventing them from doing so would they actually be able to make money by writing inspirational stories and share them with the world for a substantial profit. Thus, in a way, this is related to the dark night of the soul and money. The dark night of the soul is the time in a person’s life where they touch their deepest, darkest beliefs which have been rejected by their conscious mind for so long. In this case, a person will need to tap into their deepest, darkest beliefs in order to make a solid, stable income online, in this case, by writing inspirational stories. Only if a person’s subconscious beliefs can be transformed will the ideas in "The Secret" and "Beyond the Secret" be able to come to fruition in people’s lives and help them create the financial freedom they truly deserve.

"The Secret" – Not A Magic Wand?

Critics are raging over the celebrity of best-selling DVD and book, "The Secret," claiming that it could be harmful to its followers.                                          The Law of Attraction is not a new concept. However, "The Secret," available in both DVD and hardcover, has once again brought it to the forefront and created a worldwide phenomenon. The theory is simple. Like attracts like. If you are negative, you will get negative things in return. If you are positive, positive things will happen for you.

In "The Secret," there are many startling examples of the Law of Attraction. One of the most impacting is the man who was in an airplane crash. Because of a spinal cord injury, his prognosis was that he would be a quadriplegic with no hope of recovery. Using "The Secret," the man visualized and believed that he would walk again. And on Christmas Day, the day he’d chosen in his mind, he walked through the hospital doors. However, one must not believe that he just jumped up out of bed and strolled outside. In fact, he endured months of treatment and rigorous, painful therapy before that Christmas Day arrived. But in the end, it was still a miracle by anyone’s standards.

Also shown are a woman who believed she was cured of cancer without conventional treatment, and a woman who is blessed with an expensive gold necklace that she spied in a shop window. Many critics of "The Secret" have stated that the movement is ridiculously materialistic and encourages those who want something for nothing.

A number of medical professionals also express concern that "The Secret" could lead to a "blame-the-victim" mentality and could cause grave danger to those who are mentally ill or suffer from serious illnesses. John Norcross, a psychologist and professor at Pennsylvania’s University of Scranton, conducts research on self-help books and believes that many can be helpful if they are targeted at a specific problem and backed by science. He believes that "The Secret" is a "triumph of marketing and magic."

Norcross states that the mantra used in the "The Secret""Ask, Believe, Receive," could easily be transformed into a blame-the-victim mentality. "Cancer victims. Sexual assault victims. Holocaust victims. They’re responsible?" Norcross questioned. "The book is riddled with these destructive falsehoods."

Stacy Kaiser, a psychotherapist and lifestyle coach, said that several patients have read "The Secret" and became worried that it was their fault they were abused or list their jobs. Others seem to think that by using "The Secret" everything in their lives will change overnight. "People start to think that they don’t have to use their free will, that they don’t have to have power anymore, that they don’t have to make choices," said Kaiser. "They don’t realize they have to do the work. And that’s the conversation I keep having to have with people."

Rhonda Byrne, a television and film producer from Australia, is the woman behind "The Secret." She sticks to her claim that the "Law of Attraction" is the governing force of our universe. "The law of attraction says that like attracts like, and when you think and feel what you want to attract on the inside, the law will use people, circumstances and events to magnetize what you want to you, and magnetize you to it," Byrne stated in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

Byrne also defends herself against the opinion that "The Secret" doesn’t talk enough about taking action in your life. "Become that which you want on the inside, and you shall receive it in the outside world," she said in her e-mail. "The most important action to take is the work within you. When that is done, you will be moved in the outside world to receive what you asked for."

Dr. Maria Padro, a psychiatrist at St. Vincent’s Hospital Manhattan in New York City, said that she read "The Secret" to find out what the "jibber jabber" was all about. While her copy remains out of view of her visitors, Padro says that she sees the value in positive thinking. "I think the secret is that everyone has their own secret, and everyone has their own dream," Padro said. "And the book is one of the tools we can use to get it, but I don’t think that it’s a little magic wand."
